Mrs. Nathan Francis Mossell was Paul Robeson's aunt on his maternal side and both she and her husband were early civil rights activists in Philadelphia. Contains valuable biographical information on African-American women writers, journalists, poets, etc., of the day. In addition to the poetry throughout the first part of the book by such writers as Frances Harper author of " Megda", there is an entire section of verse at the end by Mrs. Mossell.
