(MUSIC.) Meet me There. Where? At the Gardens Concert and Dance.

(MUSIC.) Meet me There. Where? At the Gardens Concert and Dance. Black and white photo-pictorial sign for a band concert by the Colonial Band, under Fritz Hawkins, 13 x 21-3/4 inches; small chip to right margin, not affecting image or text. Washington Gardens, PA, circa 1918-1925

  • Notes: Band concerts were very popular all over the country in the latter part of the 19th century and into the early part of the 20th. The Colonial Band is pictured in uniform, and was the official band of the local Knights of Pithias. The sign states that they were all members of the American Federation of Musicians, an early union formed in 1896. This performance was apparently quite an event; the sign advises that there were "Special Cars (railroad) Leaving Washington for Pittsburgh at 1:30 AM."
