With 107 illustrations including 105 drawings of horse anatomy and pacing, and 2 heliotypes, 1 of Muybridge's 24 cameras in position and the other a view of his background and equipment. Large 4to, original gilt-pictorial cloth, with elaborate stamped decorations in dark brown. Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1882 THE CONTROVERSIAL PUBLICATION THAT LED TO MUYBRIDGE'S FINANCIALLY RUINOUS SUITS AGAINST STANFORD AND OSGOOD. Many of the illustrations were drawn from Muybridge's photographs. But, this volume, which was published under the auspices of Leland Stanford, neglected to credit Muybridge as its "original author" on the title page, or acknowledge him for his work.
