(NEEDLEPOINT SAMPLER.) A Map of the United States.

(NEEDLEPOINT SAMPLER.) A Map of the United States. Early American needlepoint sampler picturing the United States, 430x450 mm (17x18 inches), double chain stitch forming the boundaries between the states, with the map surrounded by flower and vine motif; quite browned (can be cleaned), some wear at edges; stitched signature of Mary P. Little. United States, circa 1817

  • Notes: Wonderful survival from the first quarter of the 19th century. The sampler has been dated to circa 1817 because Illinois appears as a territory and Indiana as a state. Indiana was admitted to the Union in 1816 and Illinois in 1818.
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
