NELSON, THOMAS. Letter Signed, "Thos Nelson Jr.," as Governor of Virginia, to Brigadier General George Weedon,

NELSON, THOMAS. Letter Signed, "Thos Nelson Jr.," as Governor of Virginia, to Brigadier General George Weedon, welcoming Weedon to his new post in Gloucester, and asking the Colonel James Innes retain his command in the area. 1 page, folio, with integral address leaf; toned, minimal dampstaining, address leaf worn with small seal hole. Williamsburg [VA], 17 September 1781

  • Notes: "I am favored with an opportunity of writing to you, which I have not before had since I heard of your arrival in Gloster. The troops which form your command will amount, I imagine, to about two thousand men. Colonel Innes having for a considerable time commanded a brigade on that side, I wish him still to continue in a like command, and that the men who have already served under him form part of it."
