  • Notes: Joseph Mitchell (1908-1996) was a longtime New Yorker columnist and, by general acclamation, one of the great chroniclers of New York's scruffy eccentrics and hidden history. Offered here are first editions of the five compilations of his much-beloved New Yorker articles.

"Joe Gould's Secret." [9], 181 pages. First edition of a pair of stories about Mitchell's most famous subject, and the basis for a 2000 film. New York: Viking Press, [1965]

"Up in the Old Hotel." [2], xiii, 718 pages. First edition of an expanded compilation of the four books above; signed by Mitchell on the title page. New York: Pantheon, [1992]
