(NEW YORK.) Archive of general store account books from Rockland County.

(NEW YORK.) Archive of general store account books from Rockland County. 8 volumes. Folio, various sizes and bindings; generally worn. (JMR) Orangetown, NY, 1822-38

  • Notes: At least four of these daybooks and ledgers were kept by Abraham (or Abram) House (1788-1849), who operated his general store before serving as town clerk and justice of the peace starting in 1841. His customers came from Orange and Rockland Counties in New York, as well as from Bergen County over the border in New Jersey. The other four volumes come from a similar business in Orangetown, possibly operated by a House family member.
