NORMAN BEL GEDDES RINGLING BROS. AND BARNUM AND BAILEY CIRCUS. 1942
A woman in red and yellow with big green feathers is doing a synchronized dance-step with an elephant, depicted in yellow and black; against a yellow background, lettering in red and green. Bel Geddes began his career as a designer for the New York City Opera, but entered the world of industrial design in 1927. A pioneer in "Modernity" he designed the "Futurama 'Metropolis of Tomorrow' " pavillion for General Motors at the New York World's fair in 1939 as well as a host of other futuristic, modernistic and Art Deco objects and projects. This poster is signed with his distinctive monogram.
