NORMAN LEWIS Togetherness.

NORMAN LEWIS
Togetherness.

Etching on cream wove paper, 1973. 325x405 mm; 12 3/4x16 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated, dedicated and numbered 4/35 in pencil, lower margin. A very good dark impression.

Toward the end of his life, Norman Lewis embarked on a series of paintings and prints (made after his paintings) that stylistically appeared different, with shapes resembling figures (triangles, squares and circles) in strong outlines, but principally were the same, still operating in an Abstract Expressionist ideology. They promoted an optimistic-looking world, here entitled Togetherness, and envision a society united after the Civil Rights movement of the previous decade.
