  • Provenance:
Gift from the artist to Floyd Jerome Patten.
Thence by descent to current owner.

This drawing of a young boy was gifted to the present owner's grandfather, Floyd Jerome Patten (1888-1972) while he was an editor at Boy's Life magazine in 1914: "Mr. Patten, here is a practice character study I have just finished. The subject is a boy who lives on my block. I didn't do it for the magazine. I want to give it to you if you like it." Quoted in "Bouya" no. 501, a December 4th, 1968 column by "Paddlin Pat" (Floyd Jerome Patten), in a local Marshall Minnesota newspaper.
