NORRIS, FRANK. Autograph Letter Signed, to his publisher, "My dear Mr. [Grant] Richards,"

NORRIS, FRANK. Autograph Letter Signed, to his publisher, "My dear Mr. [Grant] Richards," discussing the contract for, sale of rights to, payment for, and translation of, his The Octopus, mentioning progress on his The Pit, thanking Richards for sending good reviews, and inquiring about Dreiser's Sister Carrie. 2 pages, 4to, written on two sheets, "Doubleday, Page & Company" stationery; folds. New York, [circa November 1901]

  • Notes: ". . . Yes, all right about the Tauchnitz Octopus. Can you not have a copy sent to me? If the German . . . wants to do the thing into German and pay the pounds for it, let him have it . . . as to an equal division of the plunder between us, that is satisfactory too. . . .
"The Octopus contract came today and is satisfactory. I hope the sales are justifying your expectations.
"The Pit is coming on, and I believe--firmly--will be much stronger than the first book of the Trilogy.
"Thanks for the Reviews wh[ich] I receive from you occasionally. They seem to be good to us over there. Watch out for a man named Friedman who has writ 'By Bread Alone.' Did you get Dreiser's Sister Carrie? . . ."
This letter appears in Collected Letters, edited by Jesse S. Chrisler, no. 103.
