NORTH, FREDERICK; Lord. Letter Signed, "North," as Prime Minister, to an unnamed correspondent, but possibly a member of Parliament, encouraging him to attend a meeting of the House of Commons. 1 page, single 4to sheet. "Downing Street," 15 November 1774 E800/1,200 "I take the Liberty of troubling you with this Letter to inform you that Parliament which is fixed for the 29th of this month will certainly sit for the Dispatch of Business before the Holidays and I hope that it will not be inconvenient to You to give your Attendance in the House of Commons on the day of the Meeting . . ." The coming of the Revolution was imminent at the time of this letter. The Intolerable Acts had been passed earlier in the year, the first Continental Congress had already met, and General Gage was amassing forces in Boston. In addition, the British elections in November of 1774, just days before this letter, cemented the majority in Parliament in favorof a hard line stance against the colonists.
