OFFICERS' RECORD OF A COLORED REGIMENT
We Fight for Our Rights, Liberty, Justice and Union. 22d Regiment Colored Troops Officers' Record. Keepsake broadside listing the names of officers who served in the regiment, enclosed in an ornamental border of Greek columns and headed by scenes from battles and prominent figures from the war, 21 1/2x16 3/4 inches; darkened at edges and with a faint hint of dampstaining; mounted to a stiff board. Np, circa 1865
- Notes: The 22nd war raised at Philadelphia during December 1863 and trained at Camp Penn. They participated in a number of battles during the war and was the only regimented detailed to escort the body of President Lincoln. Shortly after they were sent to the Eastern Shore in pursuit of John Wilkes Booth and other conspirators. Mustered out in Brownsville, Texas in 1865, many remained in the service and became Buffalo soldiers. OCLC locating only one other copy of this keepsake.
