Notes: Miller's "Obscenity and the Law of Reflection" appeared in the February 1945 issue of Tricolor. It was an important essay by Miller, in which he comes close to apologizing for the alledged obscenity in his writings, but argues that obscenity exists in the world and that he as author is simply telling the truth. In proposing the article, he writes in a 24 September 1944 ALS in this group: "I have already established quite a reputation as obscene writer. I might be able to say better what the critics, pundits & psychologists strive to tell about it." A nice group of letters with strong literary content.
with--Two ALsS from Hugh Walpole to Winer. And other material.
