  • Notes: "Yr. letter encouraged me when I felt low about 'committees' rushing up and removing my books from store shelves, which is a violation of the 1st Amendment of The Constitution -- I was thinking of not publishing any more, which wd have pleased most literary 'critics' -- So, thank you for the lift."
    On the Road was published 4 years prior to this letter, and had achieved both acclaim and criticism. At the time of this note, Kerouac was working on his last novel Big Sur.
