ONE OF ONLY TEN SETS CERVANTES SAAVEDRA, MIGUEL DE. The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha. Translation, introduction, and notes by John Ormsby. Plates by George Cruikshank and Adolphe Lalauze, with lettered tissue guards. 4 volumes in 8. 8vo, original calf with scenes from the novel embossed on the covers, embellished with bronze-toned paint, raised calf borders, windmill motif on spines, and red and tan calf gilt doublures, joints rubbed and dry, loss at corners of most spine ends; overall still attractive but needs some attention; uncut and mostly unopened, front endpaper loose in Volume 1, part 1; frontispiece dampstained along outer edge in part 2. Printed at the University Press for Vademecum Publishing Company. Madrid, London, and New York, 1902
- Notes: one of only ten numbered sets of the edition unique with mounted hand-colored plates on India paper throughout. An intriguing set based upon the Ormsby/Cruikshank and the Motteux/Lalauze editions and for which no records could be located.
