"OUT OF JAIL FOR 8 DAYS" (BLACK PANTHERS.)

Cleaver, Eldridge. Diary containing 6 pages of Autograph entries by Cleaver. Small 8vo, original cloth. Alameda County, CA, 21-25 August 1976 Cleaver had just returned from voluntary exile, when he was promptly arrested by the California authorities. The entries deal with his legal affairs and personal matters. "I have been out of the Alameda County Jail 8 days. It has been a whirlwind, most of which has been inside my head" (21 August); "What a day! Went to court this morning. Judge Lindsey imposed a very rigorous Gag Rule on the case" (23 August). There is one short entry by Kathleen Cleaver listing a hotel room at the Hyatt Hotel at the airport. Diary is accompanied by 2 photographs of Cleaver with Anthony Bryant.
