PABLO PICASSO.
Untitled, Circus Scene. Mixed media cardboard cutout proof on paper, circa 1945. Signed in red pencil, lower right. Image 10 x 17 inches, approximate. Sheet 15 3/4 x 22 1/2 inches. Remains of paper tape on verso at top left and right margins. Repaired 1/2-inch tear in the top left margin, far from the image. Bridget Baer who updated Geiser's catalogue raisonne identifies it as a variant to Mourlot 11 and Bloch 1343. She calls it a "Lithocollage" with the figures arranged differently and reversed, possibly a counter-proof. This work is either a unique print or one of only very few proofs. The ink used appears to be the "tacky" ink frequently used on linoleum block prints.
