PAL DOMAINE DU CHATEAU DE V.
55x42 inches.
Condition B+: restored losses in top margin; repaired tears in margins affecting text; vertical and horizontal folds; creases in image.
This rare image is a surprising departure for Pal, who rarely depicted children. Yet given a commission for milk he was left with little choice! The image is of a very conservatively dressed mother (also unusual for Pal) serving a glass of milk to her daughter. Conceivably the Chateau du V could be the Domaine de la Vingeanne, for whom Steinlen designed his famous milk poster, although it is difficult to be certain as good milk poster reference books are hard to come by.
