PAL (JEAN DE PALEOLOGUE, (1860-1942) CABOURG. 1893.

57x39 inches. Paul Dupont, Paris.
Condition B: restoration and restored losses along vertical and horizontal folds and in margins.
Although considered less pretentious than its neighboring seaside town of Deauville, Cabourg was nonetheless one of the most elegant resorts on the Normandy coast, frequented by such luminaries as Marcel Proust. Clearly "le petit Marcel" was not the intended target of this racy poster. For once Pal has found a legitimate reason to virtually undress one of his sexy, buxom women, as he places her amidst the waves, timidly getting her legs wet, with one of her shoulder straps beginning to slip. The poster is markedly different, artistically and conceptually, from Privat-Livemont's poster designed for the same resort. Reims, 930.
