PAUL DELVAUX La Fenêtre.

PAUL DELVAUX
La Fenêtre.

Lithograph, 1971. 580x780 mm; 23x31 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 17/50 in pencil, lower margin. Printed and published by Mourlot, Paris. A very good impression of this large lithograph.

Delvaux's (1897-1994) sublime, same-titled oil on canvas from 1936, showing a solitary woman with her back to the viewer, staring out an open window at a garden, now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts d'Ixelles, Brussels, is a masterpiece of Belgian surrealism. Both the earlier oil painting and the current lithograph share the overriding dreamlike quality of Delvaux's work. Jacob 52.
