PAUL GAUGUIN (after) Two frottages on Japan paper

PAUL GAUGUIN (after)

Two frottages on Japan paper.

Both circa 1959. Both 240x345 mm; 9 1/2x13 1/2 inches, full margins. One numbered 1/6, the other numbered 3/6, both lower left. Both initialed, dated and inscribed by Paul René Gauguin, the artist's grandson, in pencil, lower margin. Both dedicated "to Helen & Herbert Copenhagen 6/5-67" in pencil, upper left.

Paul René Gauguin (1911-1976) derived the design for these rubbings (frottages) from a wooden armoire by the artist Paul Gauguin (1848-1903), which he had carved in 1882.
