PAUL TANQUERAY (1905-1991) Anna May Wong (1905-1961). 1933; printed 1950s.

PAUL TANQUERAY (1905-1991)
Anna May Wong (1905-1961). 1933; printed 1950s.
Silver print, the image measuring 9 5/8x7 5/8 inches (24.4x19.4 cm.), with Wong's signature and inscription in ink on recto, and Tanqueray's credit stamp (twice), the title in pencil, and two Archie Parnell publisher stamps on verso.

Another print of this image is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London.

  • Condition: Paul Tanqueray's portrait of the great Anna May Wong is in very good condition. This print also with Wong's signature and inscription in ink on recto.

Though on a textured, double weight paper, the print appears to have been used for press purposes initially and has some of the condition imperfections associated with that use. However, the toned print is bright and dimensional, with detail and contrast evident throughout.

It is possible to find some slight surface inconsistencies, including a tiny diagonal crease at the upper left corner, a few tiny specs of what appear to be retouching, a couple isolated rubs, and a few slight tonal inconsistencies. This includes a small processing shift in Wong's shoulder and a couple gray-ish spots in the background, all nearly unnoticeable and not distracting from the central figure. There are no margins, and it is also possible to find a couple minuscule chips near the corners.

Print verso is very faintly soiled, with Tanqueray's credit stamp (twice), the title in pencil, and two Archie Parnell publisher stamps on verso.
