green morocco, gilt-ruled on covers, spines in six compartments with five gilt-decorated raised bands, gilt-lettered in two compartments, some splitting along joints and wear to extremities; minor light foxing and offsetting from plates, one discreet repair on 2C4 in Volume 2, a few minor marginal tears; gilt edges. London: Henry Colburn, 1825 FIRST EDITION. ONE OF ONLY TWELVE COPIES FOR PRESENTATION, INSCRIBED BY THE MASTER OF MAGDALENE COLLEGE on the front flyleaf, "Honble. & Revd. John Fortescue from the humble & Revd. The Master of Magdalene College." The diary was among Pepy's manuscripts kept at Magdalene College, and it was the Master of Magdalene College (the Hon. and Rev. George Neville) who was responsible for having it published after John Evelyn's memoirs were published in 1818. The half-titles in this copy read "Presentation Copy," printed in red.
