Portrayed here as a ghost-like figure watching over the Yarra River and city center of Melbourne, John Batman was pivotal in the founding of Melbourne and one of the few who attempted to compensate the Aborigines for use of their land. He was also the only native-born Australian to form a capital city, and for a brief period, Melbourne was actually called Batmania. Victoria cover, Trading Places 13.
