On verso, pencilled name "John Littlejohn" is somewhat faded. Junction City, Kansas: Teitzel, circa late 1880s-early 90s E400/600 Probably a Buffalo Soldier, given photographer's studio location. Many Buffalo Soldiers were trained at Fort Leavenworth or Fort Riley, Kansas. Wearing no cap, this soldier's crossed carbines and company letter on his lapel make exact indenti-fication difficult. He wears a brass "Marksman" medal on his chest. [SEE ILLUSTRATION].146
