[ Photographs ] Allen, Albert Arthur Portfolio entitled "The Model, Series No. 1in containing 15 classic photographs of what Allen described as "seven gracious American girls. ." shown in a series of tableaux which exhibit their "semi-athletic" prowess and the finer aspects of their body types and temperaments. With a text pamphlet describing the purpose of the portfolio and a "Physical and Character Analysis" of each of the models in the project. Silver prints, 6.5 x 9 5inches. 4to, wrappers, worn; contents crisp and clean, loose as issued. Allen Art Studios: Oakland, 1925 E6000-9000 Allen presented "The Model" as "a keystone - mortising Art and Science." While the photographs appear to the viewer as charming and rather beautiful, studies of well- toned young women, the text which accompanies them clarifies their quasi-scientific purpose, and lends them an almost bizarre air. Allen, who believed that the physical makeup of his models revealed their character and their past, detailed the measurements, race, descent, pubic hair and "Sexine" of each of his models. Ironically Allen was already being prosecuted for sending obscene materials through the United States mails when he was working on this series.
