Together, 2 volumes containing a total of 274 albumen prints, including several 3-part panoramas, with views of Gibraltar, Madeira, and Diamond Fields at the Cape of Good Hope; other multi-part panoramas of Teneriffe 2 and Bahia, Brazil 4; expedition photographs of Lisbon, the Mic Mac Indians of Nova Scotia 2, gold diggings in Halifax 3, "Negro Family" in the Cape Verde Islands, Monte Video, Japan, Havana, and the natives Of Rotomah: as well as damage from the collision of the German ships "Koenig Wilhelm" and the "Grosser Kurfurst" 6, and the H. M. S. Northampton at Quebec in 1881 Albumen prints, from 2 x 3.25 to 5.5 x 44 inches, mounted one to 6 per page, recto and verso, with period ink handwritten captions. Challenger conducted an around-the-world ocean surveying and scientific expedition in the years 1872-1876 After the ships return, Her Majestys Stationery Department entrusted the photographer, J Horsburgh, Edinburgh, with the printing and distribution of prints from the negatives taken on the voyage.
