[ Photographs ] (Haiti) Group of 3 portfolios entitled "Souvenir d'Haiti," containing a total of 57 ethnographic and landscape photographs by the talented American amateur photographer Edmund Cash Pechin. Platinum prints, size varies, from approximately 4x 7 to 7.25 x 9inches or the reverse, each with Pechin's handwritten caption, in ink, on mount recto. Folio, red and blue gilt-lettered cloth, soiled, covers detached; contents loose as issued. Circa 1900 E1500-2000 Edmund Cash Pechin 1834-1928 was a native of Virginia who practiced law until 1867 Soon after he became a mining engineer and subsequently founded the American Institute of Mining Engineers. In 1895 he and his family moved to Greyledge, a manor house in Botetourt County, that today is considered one of its grandest homes. he was a well- respected professional who is listed in Who Was Who In America, Vol. 1, 1897-1942 (Chicago, 1942 The photographs in these volumes demonstrate Pechin's lyrical sensibility, and his accomplished interpretation of the native landscape and culture.
