Dole; military maneuvers during the Spanish-American war; the Chinatown fire; tourist views of indigenous people and the native landscape; in addition to Davey's prints of Kaiulani's funeral; the flood of 1898, and the annexation ceremonies at the Dolain Palace, as well as miscellaneous family pictures. Albumen and silver prints, 7x 9inches and smaller, a few crudely hand-colored, 16 by Davey, with his caption and credit in the negative. Oblong 4to, leatherette, stained, worn; with several loose photographs laid in. 1898-1900 E2000-3000 A fascinating pictorial document that chronicles Hawaii's tumultuous political history at the turn-of- the-century. Featured are pictures of Sanford B. Dole, the robber baron who overthrew Queen Liliuokalani in 1887 to establish a government more favorable to American commercial interests; somber studies, by Davey, of Princess Kaiulani funeral procession; a series of dramatic prints of the aftermath of the flood in Honolulu on March 24, 1898, and others chronicling the ceremony when theamericanflag was first raised over the island; ethnographic views; and vernacular snaps of the royal family.
