Group of 35 romantic Pictorial studies made over a 40-year period of Scotland and England, and one of Venice comprising landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, pastoral views of rural life, and several portraits. Bromoil, bromoil transfer and gum bichromate prints, 12 x 10.25 inches, and smaller, a few hand-colored, most signed and titled, in pencil, on mount recto, several with exhibition labels and hand-titled on mount verso. 1904-40s E2500-3500 Hill (1867-1949), an accomplished British photographer, wrote extensively about the bromoil and bromoil transfer process. A member of the Edinburgh Photographic Society, his work was exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution, the Scottish National Salon, and the London Salon of Photography. The group includes a self-portrait, of Hill at his retouching table, and a photostatic copy of a thirty-five page lecture he delivered about the bromoil process in 1927
