[ Photographs ] (Italy) Archaeologist's archive containing approximately 95 photographs of excavation activities at the Colosseum in Rome, comprising scenes of interior chambers ( illuminated with candlelight?), details of inscriptions and graffiti, the site's central passage, upper gallery, the chamber of Nero, corridor of the Emperor, and eastern side, close-ups of mosaics, fragments of sculptural ornaments, and 10 photographs of elevation renderings as well views of Rome itself, Naples, Lucca, and outlying villages, with an emphasis on architectural and landscape scenes. Albumen prints, most are 7 x 9 inches, each with lengthy penciled, notations, on mount recto; laid in is a multi-page list and inventory of the photographs. 1871-75
