Silver prints, 5.25 x 4.25 and 6.25 x 4.5inches, each with the photographer's signature and date, in pencil, on mount recto. 1940; 1941; both are printed later E1800-2200 Born in 1906, in Selyp, Hungary, Kepes originally studied painting and motion pictures. At the invitation of Moholy-Nagy, in 1930, he moved to Berlin and collaborated with Moholy on light and design experiments. In 1936 he followed Moholy to London, and began making photograms. During the war he fled Germany for the U S., and worked with Moholy at the New Bauhaus, in Chicago. From 1946-74 he was a professor of visual design at M. I. T
