[ Photographs ] (Miller, Charles Henry) Artists Studies Group of 37 European photographs, from the collection of the accomplished Long Island painter Charles Henry Miller, comprising Barbizon School- like nature studies, among them 3 by James Valentine, 8 by F. Albert Schwartz, one by Glossner of Munich, and 2 by Hessling of Leipzig, of tree roots, farmyards and farm children, Alpine vistas, worn chalets, river banks, snow scenes and more. Albumen prints, one on the original mount and the remainder unmounted, from 4.5 x 7 to 10 x 8. 5inches: the Schwartz studies with the photographer's blindstamp, the Valentines initialled, titled and numbered in the negative, the Hessling and Glossner prints with the photographer's handstamp on verso, several numbered in the negative and many with the number penciled in a period hand on verso. 1860s-80s E1500-2000 A handsome group of pastoral images mostly by German photographers that were employed by Miller in his own works. F Albert Schwartz was a skilled Berlin photographer who specialized in "often exquisite" studies for artists.
