[ Photographs ] (Photographic Society) Philadelphia Important album of 85 photographs, compiled by a member of the Photographic Society of Philadelphia, featuring samples of the work of fellow members, and examples of various photographic processes, and including group portraits, many with photographic equipment, taken on society field trips, pictorial landscapes, a cyanotype of P&r railroad engine No. 411, and a West Philadelphia Passenger Railway steam street car; sample processes include a leaf print photogram, an indoor portrait of a costumed couple captioned "Probably first gelatine plate exposed by magnesium light, 1880 or 1881," a double exposure, and a Photogelatine print by Carbutt. Albumen prints 65), cyanotypes 7, platinum and early silver prints 13), from 2.25 x 3.5 to 7 x 9inches, mounted one to 6 per page, recto and verso, with period penciled, notations indicating photographer and/or process. 4to, half leather, backstrip lacking, covers stained and worn. 1874-1886, E1800-2200 Compiled during a time when Philadelphia was a major center of photographic activity and innovation, this album provides a rare glimpse into how members of the influential photographic societies shared and collected examples of each others work and specimens of the latest photographic improvements Photographers represented include George Bacon Wood 1832-1910), Samuel Fisher Corlies (1830-1888), Samuel M.
