Silver print after his painting of the same title, 8.75 x 5 .5in, with Sheeler's signature, title, and date, in ink, and a hand stamp on verso. 1938 E2,000/3,000 Charles Sheeler (1883-1965) painted "The Upstairs" (1917 from a photograph made very early in his career at his country home in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. According to authors Theodore Stebbins, Jr. and Norman Keyes, Jr.: "[Sheeler] had been a photographer of art from the first years that he worked with a camera.
