[ Photographs ] (South Seas) Burton Bros.; Beattie; et alia Album entitled "Round the World 1895-96" containing approximately 50 photographs of New Zealand, Tasmania, The Fiji Islands, and sAmoA, comprising more than 25 exotic views of the Maori and Fijian peoples, and an assortment of 30 miscellaneous views of New Zealand and Australia. The highlights of the album include scenes of Maoris, who are posing in domestic settings and identified by name, such as " Pipi and her children," "Ti Eke Wanganmi," " Taitua," " Ngahino," "Te Heu Heu," "Te Hauhau", "the fair Orini," "Ti Eke," " Huingatini," in addition to a Taiparis house; these are followed by a views of life in the burgeoning cities of Hobart, Melbourne, and Adelaide; and a series of compelling studies of the beautiful men and women of Fiji, each in remarkable hairdo, includes a warrior, pictures where native men reenact scenes relating to cannibalism, and a portrait of a Samoan girl. Albumen prints, 6.5 x 8.5inches and smaller, many with the photographer's credit and caption in the negative, nearly all with a handwritten identification on mount recto. Oblong 4to, gilt-lettered 1/4 morocco. 1880s-90s
