[ Photographs ] Thompson, T B. Album containing 127 photographs by the American amateur photographer Harriet Thompson of her family members and estate in Milford, Conn., which was known as " Morningside," that includes lyrical scenes of children at play, women in elegant equestrian outfits posing sidesaddle, many yachting and recreational lakeside scenes, farm animals grazing, adults posing with their tennis racquets, as well as street scenes that appear to depict Lower Fifth Avenue or Brooklyn Heights, featuring rows of brown stones lining cobblestoned streets, well-dressed women in horsedrawn carriages, interior views, including one of her darkroom with chemicals arranged on a window sill, and plein air portraits of children. Albumen prints, 4.5 x 7.5inches and smaller. Folio, pictorial cloth, lacks backstrip. Signed and Dated By Thompson. 1885 E1200-1800 Harriet Barnard Thompson was the daughter of the wealthy machinery manufacturer Henry Graham Thompson. An avid, if not fully accomplished practitioner, the photographs in this album depict her rich and comfortable life from the pastoral environs of Milford to the homey interiors of her New York domicile. The overall results, however are somewhat mixed: in two of the pictures the negative is lifting from the plate, a few are out-of-focus, and still others have deteriorated due to the glue used to affix the prints to the album pages. Nevertheless, this is an uncommon album by an American woman photographer who lovingly chronicled a year of her life.
