(PHOTOGRAPHY.) VAN DER ZEE, JAMES. Easter girl with rabbit

(PHOTOGRAPHY.) VAN DER ZEE, JAMES. Easter girl with rabbit (supplied titles.) Gelatin silver print, 6-5/8x4-1/2 inches in the original cardboard matte; with van der zee's dated stamp in the negative, and "g.g.g." stamps on the reverse./span New York, 1931

  • Notes: A beautiful image of a young girl, perhaps 6 or 7 years old, in her Easter outfit, an Easter bunny at her feet. James Van De Zee (1886-1983) is considered to be the quintessential Harlem Renaissance photographer. He is best known for his portraits, though Van Der Zee enjoyed "tinkering" with double exposures that combined things like the spirit of a deceased person rising from their body as they lay in state.
