- Notes: "From a personal acquaintance with and a deep interest in the Quackenbush family of Albany N.Y. I am induced to ask for Master Jno N. Quckenbush son of Nicholas Quackenbush now a Clerk in the Department of War the appointment of Midshipman in the U.S. Navy. I am not personally acquainted with the young man, but am informed that he is a promising lad, intelligent and honourable, with general adaptation mental & physical for the service..."
