DESIGNER UNKNOWN [INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY.]
35 1/4x26 1/2 inches. Mocpoligraph.
Condition B+: restored loss in top right corner and bottom margin; repaired tears in margins and image; pinholes in corners.
Powerful, efficient and, perhaps, most importantly, widely accepted by the Stalin regime as an acceptable means of propaganda, photomontages began to appear everywhere. Images of factories, crowds, chimneys, dynamic use of the diagonal, the inclusion of lots of red, and progressive handling of typography became common-place. Here a young man is calling his fellow youths to a demonstration on International Youth Day, September 1st. This image stands out from many others for its predominant use of green.
