POSTER: FRANZ PAUL GLASS (1886-1967). PARK CA
FRANZ PAUL GLASS (1886-1967) PARK CASINO.
18 7/8x25 1/2 inches, 48x64 1/2 cm. Dr. Kohler, Munich.
Condition B+: expertly replaced top margin.
Glass, who studied at the Decorative Arts Museum in his native Munich, opened his own studio in 1910, and shortly thereafter joined with five other Munich-based graphic designers (Fritz Huebner, Carl Moos, Walenty Zietara, Emil Preetorius, and Maz Schwarzer) to form a group called "Die Sechs." These talented poster designers, who all worked for the same printer, hoped that by joining together, they could compete with Ludwig Hohlwein for Munich clients. In this, post-war poster, for Park Casino (the same establishment advertised in the previous lot), Glass's light Art Deco style shows that the place has become a trendy cafe with music, jazz and dancing. The cold colors have been replaced by sensuous reds, oranges and yellows.
