GENE WALTHER (DATES UNKNOWN) TWA / THE TRANSCONTINENTAL AIRLINE. Group of three calendar backs. 1941.
Each approximately 22 1/4 x 13 inches.
Condition varies, generally B+: tears and wrinkles at edges; punch hole in the top margin of each.
An exquisite group of modernist, air-brushed images featuring "the world's first pressurized airliner, the four-engined Boeing 307 Stratoliner, which entered service in 1940. Transcontinental and Western Air, which at the time was a domestic airline, flew five Stratoliners between the east and west coasts of the United States. . . While its pressurization was a great success, enabling it to cruise above 20,000 feet . . . the Stratoliners range fell short of expectations." (Airways p. 58). In 1950 the company, keeping its acronym, officially changed its name to Trans World Airlines. Three calendar backs each with either two or three monthly sheets attached. Airways p. 58.
