POSTER: HANKE (DATES UNKNOWN). AMERICAN AIRLI
HANKE (DATES UNKNOWN) AMERICAN AIRLINES / 707 ASTROJET. Circa 1960s.
40x30 inches, 101 1/2x76 cm.
Condition B+: tears and pinholes in margins; creases and staining in margins and image. Paper.
The "Astrojet" was a name assigned to the Boeing 707 by the Madison Avenue advertising firm of Doyle Dane Bernbach. Capitalizing on the craze for all things "space" that gripped America in the 1960s, American decided to forgo its tradition of referring to new aircraft as "Flagships." The Astrojets were painted nose to tail with an orange lightning bolt, and were used on transcontinental routes.
