Rodmell, of whom little biographical information exists, worked for many different shipping companies; The French Line, Shaw Savill & Albion, Norddeutscher Lloyd , Swedish Lloyd and the Bergen Line. The majority of his posters are realistic depictions of ships and landscapes. This image is a superbly handled Art Deco vision, with Rodmell's treatment graphically playing off the angles of the ship and the reflections in the water.
