POSTER: JULES CHÉRET OLYMPIA. 1893. 47x34 inc

JULES CHÉRET OLYMPIA. 1893.
47 1/2x34 1/4 inches. Chaix, Paris.
Condition A-: minor restoration along vertical and horizontal folds. Framed.
When he was forced to tear down his Montagnes Russes roller coaster attraction, Joseph Oller used the same location to build a music hall, Olympia, which remains on the site today. When the Music Hall opened, Cheret created one of his most ebullient images, with a joyful young lady leaping into the air and nearly out of her dress. The image must have been particularly pleasing for him as he used it for a smaller format poster the following year. Brodio 345, Maindron 278, Maitres 133, DFP-II 225, Masters 1900 p. 12, Gold 146.
