POSTER: LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949). RUMPLER

LUDWIG HOHLWEIN (1874-1949) RUMPLER FOXTROT. 1919.
13 1/8x10 1/2 inches, 33x26 1/2 cm. Dreimaskenverlag, Munich.
Condition B+: creases and wrinkles in margins and corners. Paper. Framed.
The first of two music sheet covers Hohlwein designed for Erry and Merry, the renowned Munich dancing couple. They are perhaps most famously remembered on account of the poster designed for them by Walter Schnakenberg in 1920. Schnackenberg's intimate, almost decadent portrayal of the couple dancing reflected his insider status in the self-indulgent Munich demimonde. Hohlwein, on the contrary, depicts an elegant, high-life vision of the jet-setting performers outside an airplane. Hohlwein / Munich p. 113.
