Condition A.
Max Bill studied in Zurich and at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Using modular grids and mathematical progressions he became a champion of purist aesthetics and strict visual discipline, and went on to become a key member of the Zurich Group. He was one of the pioneers of the international typographic style and became a key figure of Modernism in Europe in the fields of architecture, painting, sculpture and graphic design. Starting in the 1930s, Bill produced posters for the Kunsthaus and the Kunst Gewerbe Museum in Zurich. At the end of his life, his style softened. While his images remained abstract, they also became more colorful, and he moved from his strict sans-serif typography to lettering in his own handwriting. This was one of the last posters he designed.
