POSTER: PAUL COLIN (1892-1986). T.S.F TELEVIS

PAUL COLIN (1892-1986) T.S.F TELEVISION. Gouache maquette. Circa 1937.
43x30 inches, 109x76 cm.
Condition B / B+: repaired tears in image and margin; pinholes in corners and top and bottom margins.
As a member of the U.A.M. (Union des Artistes Modernes) Paul Colin was very much aware of the concepts of modern design and here he gives a brilliant example for the Society of Scientific Popularization of Radio and TV. The image is diagonally divided into two, with a man's eye wide open to see television on one side, and his ear picking up the sound waves from a radio on the other. Although it is a strong and perfectly balanced image, with boldly integrated lettering, there is no indication that the design was ever turned in to an actual poster.
