Although he was active as a poster designer throughout his life, Gid is best known as a book designer and a master French typographer. His first commission to design a poster came to him from a family friend, Henry Dresch, while Gid was still a student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Dresch manufactured motorcycles, and Gid designed posters for his company. This image, with the bold typography and the powerful black silhouette, is one of the best. Raymond Gid 9.
